A place for connections, analysis, research, and education on seniors housing and care

A Focus on Data Friday at the Conference

data.pngOverviews of current markets trends are the highlight for many at an NIC conference, and 2016 is no different. At this year’s NIC Fall Conference, being held September 14–16 in Washington, D.C., two sessions on Friday will help attendees wrap their minds around two key questions circulating in seniors housing and care: what’s happening in the markets now, and where are we headed?

Taking the Pulse of Valuations: Insider Perspectives and Trends

The first of two data-focused sessions scheduled for Friday at the conference, 8:00–9:00 AM, will address the current valuation environment. Bill Kauffman, senior principal at NIC, will share recent NIC capital market data and moderate a discussion with three subject matter experts, who will speak about the key factors that influence an investor’s view of value and cap rates: David Boitano of Ventas, Inc., Carolyn Nazdin of KeyBank Real Estate, and Jim Tellatin of Short & Hansen.

Attendees will learn the drivers of property valuations. Key takeaways include what data reveals about the current valuation environment and how recent trends and other key factors are affecting valuation.

Double Your Knowledge About Current Markets

How long will this economic recovery last, and what will rising wage pressures and prospective labor shortages mean for operating margins?

These are just some of the areas of focus Beth Mace, NIC’s chief economist, will discuss from 9:15–10:45 AM on Friday at the conference. Also scheduled to speak are Chuck Harry and Bill Kauffman of NIC, and Ray Thivierge of Genesis HealthCare. Timothy J. Fox, with Senior Resource Group, will both moderate and present.

During this session, Mace will address the labor markets that are facing prospective labor shortages and increasing wages. She will also discuss how the aging baby boomers will pressure federal spending on Social Security and Medicare, and how skilled nursing operators and care providers will be pressed to provide the best services for the best price.

The session also will showcase NIC data and demonstrate how it can provide both providers of care and capital with reference points and benchmarks for managing their property portfolios. Panelists will present the latest trend data and updates on NIC MAP’s latest data initiatives, including recently released new metrics on skilled nursing and seniors housing market trends. The two C-level operators on the panel, Fox and Thivierge, will share their experience in using NIC MAP data and explain how the service provides value to their companies.
