Innovating Senior Care: Collaborating Across Care Silos to Create Value

It may be counterintuitive, but collaboration with enterprises outside the real estate sector such as chronic and transitional care management, homecare, and care management technology services could be the key to unlock added value for seniors housing and care organizations.

New care delivery models for frail seniors are emerging that integrate health and supportive services which could improve health care outcomes while reducing costs, presenting a great opportunity for providers, operators, and investors – and the seniors they serve.

This emerging trend was discussed during a Feb. 22 webinar, hosted by NIC’s Bob Kramer. He was joined by consultant Anne Tumlinson, who presented the findings of her recent research on collaboration opportunities that create value.

Some of the key points detailed in this webinar include:
  • Adding value to seniors housing and care investments will hinge on innovations in health care delivery.
  • The new enterprises are focused on the areas of home care, care management, technology and enhanced primary care.
  • Operators are just now beginning to understand that the new enterprises are potential partners, not competitors.
  • The health care industry is starting to discover the value of housing in the health outcome equation.
  • Eventually, the care of frail elders will be integrated, and efficient, and take advantage of the housing component as a care delivery platform.
