The NIC Skilled Nursing Data Initiative is driven by the need to increase transparency in the skilled nursing sector and provides critical data, which NIC has been providing since 1991. Today, access to accurate, timely data is critical for investors, operators, and other stakeholders, as powerful factors such as COVID-19, increasing acuity levels, and rapidly evolving policy and payment landscapes disrupt markets and drive change. Given the outdated, cumbersome, and sometimes incomplete government data currently available, sector stakeholders continue to find NIC data invaluable.
Improving investor confidence begins with consistent, quality data. NIC is committed to continued enhancement of our data and analytics in the skilled nursing sector, enabling informed investment decisions in a challenging and fragmented sector.

“As a capital provider focused on the senior care industry, we find great value in NIC’s skilled nursing data. NIC’s tracking of skilled nursing metrics is reliable, timely, and this data is vital to understanding the industry and making informed decisions.”

Meeting the Need for Capital in Skilled Nursing
The already tremendous need for capital is growing. Over 50% of the skilled nursing properties in the NIC MAP® Data Service’s Primary and Secondary markets were built before 1980. Payors, residents, and care partners may soon demand new models of care, new technological solutions, and a range of COVID-19-related capital improvements. Remodels, repositioning, and replacements may demand investment both in real estate and operations.
Contributing data improves transparency, which leads to credibility and ultimately trust by educating not just investors and operators, but also policymakers and the general public. Real estate investors, private equity healthcare investors, and institutional investors require access to timely, relevant, and consistent skilled nursing data to support the industry.
