Greenspan, Linneman & Gingrich to Speak at NIC Conference
17th Annual Event to Focus on ‘The Coming of Age of Seniors Housing & Care’

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Those who attend the 17th Annual NIC Conference will be treated to an A-list lineup
of keynote speakers who are some of America’s most powerful economic and financial influencers, as announced
today by the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry (NIC). The conference,
acknowledged as the industry’s signature dealmaking event, will be held on October 3-5, 2007 in Washington,
D.C. It is attended each year by senior-level owners, operators, lenders, investors and developers representing
national, regional and community-based portfolios.
This year’s conference theme is: “The Coming of Age of Seniors Housing & Care: Wise Investing in an
Asset Class for the Ages.” Conference-goers will learn what financiers expect of the industry as it
becomes established as the sixth commercial real estate asset class, joining the likes of the multifamily,
office, industrial, retail and hospitality sectors.
Three powerhouse speakers will take the floor during three plenary events on Thursday, October 4:
- Alan Greenspan, economist and former chairman of the Federal Reserve, will
lead a “give and take” discussion on the global market and how it impacts interest rates and cost of
capital. One of the most powerful authorities on American domestic economic and monetary policy, Mr.
Greenspan was appointed Fed chairman by President Ronald Reagan and reappointed at successive four-year
intervals through January 2006. Since his retirement, he has held an honorary position at HM Treasury
in the United Kingdom.
- Dr. Peter Linneman – widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading strategic
thinkers in the real estate industry – will share his views on the performance and expectations of commercial
real estate now and in the future. He will also address the implications and expectations of seniors
housing and care being considered as part of this domain. Professor of Real Estate, Finance and Public
Policy at the Wharton School of Business, Dr. Linneman was recently named one of the 25 most influential
people in real estate by Realtor magazine.
- Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich will discuss how to transform health
and healthcare into a 21st century system. He is currently co-chair of the National Commission for Quality
Long-Term Care, along with Former Senator Bob Kerrey. In addition, Mr. Gingrich recently founded the
Center for Health Transformation and is author of several books, including Saving Lives & Saving Money.
“This group of keynote speakers is the most impressive to speak at the NIC Conference since its debut

information, but also a reinforcement of seniors housing and care’s growing importance at the national
level.”
In addition to the keynote addresses, several breakout sessions will be held. New this year is a Skilled
Nursing Track, which will include discussion on how the sector will be reshaped and how care will be
delivered and paid for in the future. There will also be a Real Estate Track, which will make the case
for investing in seniors housing and care in an institutional real estate portfolio.
In addition, two special sessions will be held. The first, an International Roundtable, will focus on
the reasons global equity investors are interested in the U.S. seniors housing and care market and what
opportunities exist for stateside investors abroad. The second, a Future Forum, will be a discussion
on technology.
Attendees will also have many opportunities to network and make deals – a feature that has become the
hallmark of this annual event. Along with a dedicated Networking Lounge, a reception will be held both
evenings.
Due to the conference’s popularity and efforts to maintain a size conducive to effective networking,
attendance will again be limited to 1,600 attendees. Registration fees range from $1000 (for operators
with 1-10 properties) to $1750. After August 15, a $200 late fee will apply (if space is still available).
